Mace and Sense have been appointed by East Northamptonshire Council as project managers and cost managers on the new £13m leisure centre for Rushden and the surrounding area, the first phase of long-term regeneration plans for the town.
The leisure centre is to be developed at Manor Park, Rushden and will replace existing facilities which are in need of upgrading. As a result, two key town centre sites will be made available for regeneration and development. East Northamptonshire Council is providing up to £11m in funding for the project and an additional £2m has been secured by North Northants Development Company from the Government’s Growth Fund.
By bringing wet and dry facilities together in one purpose built development, East Northamptonshire Council, working in partnership with Rushden Town Council, aims to provide residents with access to a range of modern and high quality leisure facilities. These will include a six lane 25 metre swimming pool, four court sports hall, dance and exercise studios and health and fitness suites.
The project team has been working with East Northamptonshire Council on an outline design for the new leisure centre. This is now ready for public scrutiny and a series of consultation events has been held to give local residents and businesses ample opportunity to provide feedback on the designs for the new facilities.
David Oliver, Chief Executive at East Northamptonshire Council, said: “We have brought on board highly experienced and respected consultants to deliver this exciting scheme. This project represents the first stage of ambitious regeneration plans for Rushden and we look forward to replacing the ageing facilities in Rushden with a single new, purpose-built centre we hope local people will be excited about.”
