Information

Mace was appointed to manage the overall development of the extensive new facilities for the University of Nottingham, which include three new faculty buildings, a central teaching facility, a learning resource centre, and three new halls of residence, providing an additional 750 bed spaces.
The scheme was designed to a stringent environmental brief by Sir Michael Hopkins & Partners, in conjunction with Ove Arup and Battle McCarthy, to occupy a significant brownfield site in the heart of Nottingham. The £50m project was designed, constructed and fully
occupied in 32 months.
The innovative, environmentally sustainable design attracting additional funding from the EC Thermie programme, as a demonstration of a ‘zero energy' office.
Additionally the building design incorporated green roofs, photo voltaic cells, daylight optimisation, mixed-mode ventilation and high heat recovery facilities.
Landscape design minimised material importation and exportation as well as utilised disadvantages (rainwater run-off and residual contamination) to provide advantages like a lake and tailored planting.
