Mace has been appointed project manager by the University of York to refurbish its JB Morrell Library. The primary objective of this project is the safe removal of all asbestos within the 8,500 m2 facility, providing a building which can be easily maintained and provide flexibility for future works, without the need for asbestos removal.
The team has introduced space planning measures to improve library efficiency and increase the services and resources available. The project requires regular liaison with library staff and the universitys support services team to ensure the project is completed to meet the future demands of the expanding campus.
Key features include:
- Complex phasing and logistics strategy to be developed to managed the decant strategy to ensure all resources remain accessible to students.
- Establishment of temporary accommodation to house library staff during the works.
- Library design updated to reflect the current and future working practices of a modern library facility.
- Library to remain operation throughout works will all resources remaining accessible.
