Information

Mace Technology was appointed as main contractor in December 2008 to deliver this outstanding, fast track high specification data centre, for Telehouse. Mace Technology started on site with piling in Jan 2009 and the client took occupation 15 months later in March 2010.

The project comprised the construction of a new 9 storey, Tier 3, colocation data centre building at East India Dock. This new building provides 5,000 sq/m of technical space with a further 5,000 sq/m of customer space on 5 floors.

The project had all the landlord areas fitted out together with the technical fitout of 2 of the 5 floors of data hall space, associated main plant, fire fighting passenger lift, 20 tonne capacity goods lift, (the largest lift installed in London in the last 20 years) and provision of shell and core technical services space for fitout by future tenants. Connected to the main building there is also a new 2 storey generator building with a green roof which houses a total of 8 no. 2.5MVA HV generators to support the operation of technical building, minor alterations to existing Admin building for a new glazed link bridge, and associated external works and car parking. The roof contains all the dry air coolers.

Greener energy use
The new centre has been designed and delivered to meet the UK government's new Carbon Reduction Commitment regulations, offsetting its carbon footprint by exporting waste heat for use in homes and businesses nearby.

Logistics management
MLogic provided the lead logistic support services including tower cranes, hoist, waste removal, manned guarding and security access and egress, material distribution plant, traffic management and general operatives.

Key project features:

  • Difficult vertical distribution of all materials
  • True integration of three separate logistics schemes into one
