Information

The Pitt Rivers Museum is one of most remarkable of Oxford University's museums and contains archaeology and ethnography from around the world.

The new extension includes provision of three new storeys of accommodation adjacent to provide new circulation and display space, adjacent to the grade 1 listed University Museum in a semi-enclosed courtyard. Mace's role was to manage all aspects of the project including involvement of the end user stakeholders, the design team and administration of the two stage design & building contract.

The £7m extension was funded by Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Oxford University and provides new facilities for teaching and research as well as a new exhibition area, lecture theatre, library, lift, and improved access for wheelchair users. Project architects Pringle Richard Sharrat, are now developing further phases of the scheme, such as improving the link between the University Natural History Museum and Pitt Rivers.
