Information

The construction of a retail and residential development fronting Oxford Street for Legal and General including the refurbishment of the existing facades on two of the elevations.

Mace Plus was appointed by Legal and General to deliver a high profile project facing onto Oxford Street in central London. The highly complex development was constructed behind the existing facades on both the Oxford Street and Dering Street elevations with the other sides of the development being enclosed by existing buildings which had to maintain operational fire escapes through the work areas throughout the programme.

The existing facade to Dering Street was partially removed and replaced with a new modern design to complement the existing ornate stonework of the retained elements. The overall development provided retail accomodation to the basement, ground and first floor levels with residential accommodation to the remianing three levels.

In addition a further sub basement was formed to provide plant areas for sprinkler tanks and pumps. The vaults beneath Oxford Street were removed to provide space for an electrical sub-station all of which was carried out during the erection of the main frame.
