Mace secures two projects from the Welsh NHS Trusts framework

21/12/2006

Mace has been appointed to two major projects from the Welsh NHS Trust framework. The first is the development of facilities to support front of house unscheduled care services at Bronglais Hospital for the Ceredigion and Mid Wales NHS Trust. The c.£50m project will enable the Trust to maintain a 24/7 'front door' service throughout the year and support the eventual development of all operational services to meet the needs of its highly varied and fluctuating population.

The second project is for the Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust and comprises a number of major schemes at Glan Clywd Hospital. In addition to the delivery of £177m services and estates reconfiguration strategy, the planned works include improvements to the hospital's oncology service (£40m) and the replacement of a community hospital in Llangollen (£5m). The combined spend on these schemes is likely to be in the region of £220m and all will be delivered according to a development control plan to be formulated and agreed as the first stage of work.

Mace was appointed to the Designed for Life: Building for Wales framework in September which has been established and is managed by Welsh Health Estates. The National Assembly for Wales has earmarked in excess of £300m in 2007/8 for investment in buildings to support the development of 21st century health care services for the people of Wales.

Mace believes this framework approach is a significant step forward for Welsh healthcare in general and the Trusts providing it. Based on current knowledge and practice of these collaborative arrangements, Designed for Life will improve how health care facilities of every type are designed and delivered for the use of current and future generations.
