Mace helps Yate International Academy achieve 100% rebuild funding

20/09/2010

South Gloucestershire Yate International Academy is going ahead with its £16m rebuild after the Secretary of State granted 100% funding and announced that building works were to continue as planned.

Mace's Bristol office assisted in providing local authority South Gloucestershire County Council and the sponsor, the Ridings' Federation of Academies, with justification for the project to proceed to the SoS in July this year. Soon after, the sponsor was given a letter from the SoS' Michael Gove confirming that the project could proceed.

After serving as project manager and technical advisor from the Partnership for Schools (PfS) framework in May 2009, Mace will provide cost management, sustainability and design services for the project.

The project will comprise the construction of a new Academy to accommodate 900 pupils, including 150 sixth form students. The Academy will be located on the school campus of King Edmunds secondary school in Yate, Bristol. The Academy will be 90% new build (only the newly built science block will be retained) creating a school that specialises in science, sport and health. The remainder of the school is to be demolished after the academy opens in September 2012.
