Mace helps Corby railway station open for business

10/06/2009
Corby railway station in Northamptonshire was officially opened on 27th April by the Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt Hon Geoff Hoon MP. Mace Group is working for North Northants Development Company (NNDC), the lead development delivery body responsible for coordinating and managing sustainable growth across North Northamptonshire.
The delivery of a new station and transport interchange for Corby's residents and businesses has been a key project for NNDC and was identified in the town's 2003 regeneration framework as vital to transforming perceptions of the area and stimulating further investment.
Mace project manager Adrian Jones worked as project coordinator throughout the development, acting as a focal point for funders, stakeholders and the delivery teams.
Mace employees joined funders of the project including the Homes and Communities Agency, East Midlands Development Agency and Network Rail to celebrate the opening of the station. Also present were representatives of Corby Borough Council, East Midlands Trains, Northamptonshire County Council, NNDC and the MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire, Phil Hope.
The opening of the station coincided with the commencement of East Midlands Train's full timetable from Corby to London involving 13 direct services a day. The original station closed in 1966 and direct services to London ceased in 1967. The new station, which is situated at Station Road adjacent to the site of the old station, is designed to become the focus of a new integrated transport network serving residents and businesses in the revitalised Corby town centre and surrounding areas.
