22/07/2008

Mace Group celebrated the topping out of the new international pool in Corby, East Midlands. The project team was joined by representatives of Corby Borough Council and North Northants Development Company on 14th July to mark the 50 metre pool reaching full height as the distinctive timber beams were put into place to form the arch of the new building.

Mace has been working as project manager on the new facility which is to be used by athletes training for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and as a regional competition facility. The building will be equipped with moveable floors and booms to provide a flexible space for diving events and races with a 20 metre training pool, fun pool with flume, 70 station modern gym, dance facilities, a health suite and cafe also provided onsite.

Construction works are on schedule and the building is due to open in the summer of 2009. Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Pat Fawcett said: "The new pool building is really taking shape now and the erection of the 'gulam' beams is an exciting milestone to the whole process. Our intention is to provide the best facilities possible to meet the needs of the residents of Corby and develop facilities to regional standard. Our new pool meets both these standards in a landmark and innovative building."
