Handover of high tech park

20/03/2008

On Friday 22nd February 2008, Simon Dale and Chris Philby of Mace joined client Mick Laverty, the CEO of Advantage West Midlands (AWM) to hand over the first development plot at Ansty Park in Coventry to developer Highbridge Properties and telecommunications company Ericsson. Ericsson will be the first occupant of the 50 acre, high-tech business park which has been sub-divided and developed to each buyer's specifications and will create up to 5,000 highly-skilled jobs in Coventry.

Mace is providing project management services to AWM through a four year framework with the Regional Development Agency.

On the outskirts of Coventry, Ansty Park is AWM's flagship development site and was formerly an airfield which was used as a training facility during the Second World War. Now redundant, one half of the former airfield was developed into a manufacturing facility for Rolls Royce Aero Engines. The remainder of the airfield was acquired by Advantage West Midlands in the 1990s and was identified as a major investment site for the region.

AWM chief executive Mick Laverty said: "The Ansty site is one that has been in our ownership for many years and a great deal of work has taken place in order to get to this vital stage. Advantage West Midlands and our partners in the area have remained strong in our conviction that Ansty Park offers a golden opportunity, not just for Coventry and Warwickshire, but for the wider region as a centre of technology and research and development."

Looking back on the project's progress thus far, Mace regional director Simon Dale commented: "We have a fantastic relationship with Advantage West Midlands and as a result have been involved with a number of their high profile regeneration schemes such as Longbridge and Eastside. Before our involvement Ansty Park had been dormant for many years but due to the hard work undertaken by all members of the team, the project has progressed significantly over the past 12 months. The fantastic progress has been a real team effort, but I would like to mention the contribution of the Mace project manager, Chris Philby, who has provided excellent service to the client and consequently enhanced the reputation of Mace in the Midlands."
